About Kappad Beach
Situated 16 km from Kozhikode in the south Indian state of Kerala, the
picture perfect Kappad beach was discovered by the great Portuguese explorer
Vasco Da Gama when he landed here during the 15th century. Studded with
beautiful rock formations on all its sides, the landscape of the beach
consists of numerous coconut groves and miles long stretches of silvery
sands wetted by frothy surf that gently rolls up and down the shores.
The beach is situated away from the hustle and bustle of the city making it
an ideal place for a relaxing vacation. All the visitors get to see is
picture perfect beauty and the sight of a few fishermen going out into the
sea along with their fishing nets. The 800 year old temple that lies on the
edges of the rocks is another major attraction. A pillar nearby has
inscriptions which states that Vasco Da Gama landed at the place in 1498.
Kappad Beach Attractions
The beach is an excellent place for leisure, where you also get to enjoy
such attractions as swimming and boat riding. Having a sun bath while laying
on the soft sands or a gentle stroll amidst the scenic environs are other
preffered activities. The local fishermen take the tourists for a thrilling
ride into the sea in their small size fishing boats. And if you feel hungry
after all the activity, there are plenty of beach side snack shacks which
offer a delectable variety of fresh sea food.
Nearby Attractions
Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary is a safe heaven for resident and migratory birds,
situated just 25 km from the beach. The sanctuary houses a number of rare
variety of birds including gulls, sand pipers, terns and whimbrels.
Thusharagiri Water Falls is a popular tourist attraction situated 50 km
from Kozhikode. The water cascading down from the hills and the soothing
greenery makes a popular hangout spot.

quality hotels in some of the nearby cities which are well connected with
the beach. Amongst the best accommodation options around Kappad beach are
the Taj Residency (situated on P.T. Usha Road in Calicut, the hotel is

Malabar Palace (situated on G.H. Road in Calicut, the hotel is situated just
26 km from Calicut international airport and 1 km from railway station)
Getting
There
By Air : The nearest airport is located at Calicut, just
30 km from the city. Regular flights connect Calicut with all the major
Indian cities as well as a few international cities. The international
airport, situated 200 km away at Cochin is another important centre,
connecting the city with all the major Indian and international
destinations.
By Rail : Kozhikode railway station is situated 2 km from
the Mansari square and connected to all the major Indian cities through a
number of regular trains.
By Road : State transport buses connect the city with
other nearby cities including Mysore, Madurai, Pondicherry, Mangalore, Ooty
and others. Another option is to hire a taxi from any of the nearby cities.
