About Kovalam Beach
Kovalam, which means coconut groves in local tongue, is a charming little
town in the south Indian state of Kerala. The beach at Kovalam in one of the
most sought after destinations in the state, being thronged by local and
foreign tourists throughout the year. The crescent shaped beaches of Kovalam
are replete with coconut trees that sway gently in the cool breeze as it
blows softly across the river. The silvery sands are excellent for a stroll
in the evening while the clear waters will surely tempt you into a swimming
session. As across the entire state of Kerala, you will find a number of
good ayurveda resorts, which are equally popular amongst the foreign and
local tourists.
The beaches at Kovalam are divided into three parts, the northern beach,
middle beach and southern or lighthouse beach. Kovalam can be visited
anytime of the year depending on the intent of your visit. The months from
October to March is the time when the weather is most favourable while the
ayurvedic therapies are best practiced during the monsoons from June to
September.
Location of Kovalam Beach
Kovalam is a pleasant little town located along the Malabar coast in the
south Indian state of Kerala. The beach at Kovalam is situated just outside
the town at a distance of 13 km from the state capital Trivandrum. Kovalam
is the southernmost point of Kerala.
Kovalam Beach Attractions
Kovalam has three crescent shaped beaches, each of which are replete with
natural beauty and some wonderful tourist attractions. The rocks on the
silvery sands and those extending into the sea make charming formations from
where you can watch the mesmerising view of the sun setting and rising from
behind the shimmering blues of the ocean. There are a number of eateries and
ayurveda resorts, such as you will find across the state of Kerala. Besides
relaxing and strolling on the beach, the tourists can get involved in
various activities such as water sports, sunbathing and swimming. A number
of historical monuments are located in the vicinity which are a good option
to visit during the mornings.

By Air : Trivandrum international airport is located just
16 km from Kovalam. Direct flights link Trivandrum with Chennai, Delhi,

including Kuwait, Singapore, Maldives, Colombo, Sharjah and more. Buses and
taxis are easily available to reach Kovalam from Trivandrum.
By Rail : Trivandrum is the nearest railhead, connected
to all the major Indian cities through a number of direct trains.
By Road : Kerala State Road Transport Corporation links
Kovalam with Thrissur, Ernakulam, Trivandrum, Alleppey and Kollam. A network
of well built roads interlink all the major cities in Kerala as well as
those in the neighbouring states.
