About Tamil Nadu Beaches
The south Indian state of Tamil Nadu houses some of the most enchanting
beaches found anywhere in the world. The state boasts of having the second
largest beach in the world, the Marina beach which stretches to over 12 km.
The beaches besides being prominent tourist attractions also have a lot of
religious significance connected with them. Besides its serene beaches,

Famous Beaches in Tamil Nadu
Marina Beach
It is a picturesque beach situated along a 12 km long shoreline in the
capital of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. The second longest beach in the world, it
consists of miles long stretches of velvety sands that are perfect for
evening and morning walks when the cool breeze coming from the sea adds to
the enchantment. The sun setting behind the sea waters is a wonderful sight
not to be missed.
Mahabalipuram Beach
The Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram beach is located 58 km south of Chennai,
the capital of Tamil Nadu. The picturesque beach is studded with beautiful
rock formations, sprawling sands and rising coconut trees. Mahabalipuram is
a historically significant city which houses a number of intricate stone
carved monuments. Besides these, there are other attractions in the vicinity
such as a one of its kind snake venom centre and a crocodile breeding farm.
Kanyakumari Beach
Kanyakumari is situated at the extreme southern tip of India at the meeting
point of Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, thus making it an
important Hindu pilgrimage. The beach at Kanyakumari remains thronged by
tourists as well as devotees who come here to take a purifying dip in the
holy waters. The old lighthouse situated on the beach affords a panoramic
view of the surroundings from its top.
Elliot's Beach
Elliot's beach in Besant Nagar, Chennai is a picturesque beach, such that
can rival the beauty of those in Goa and Kerala. The environs here are
perfect for swimming, lazying around and picnicking, add to that the
numerous attractions designed for children and what you get is a complete
family vacationing experience. Attractions around the beach include the
Church of Our Lady of Health, Madonna, Ashtalakshmi temple and the Schmidt
Memorial.
Covelong Beach
Situated away from the hustle and bustle of Chennai city, Covelong is a
perfect spot for rest and relaxation. The endless sprawls of silvery sands,
swaying palm and coconut groves and a cool breeze blowing across the sea are
some of the tourist magnets that draw thousands of visitors to Covelong
every year.
