About Kozhikode
Situated in the midst of the lofty peaks of Wayanad, Kozhikode is the place
where the legendary explorer Vasco Da Gama landed when he first set foot on
the Indian land on 27 May 1498. Today, Kozhikode is home to the Indian
Institute of Management, one of the most prestigious educational
institutions in the country. The place houses a number of tourist
attractions including numerous religious structures which contain

Tourist Attractions in Kozhikode
Pazhassiraja Museum
5 km from Kozhikode, this ancient building houses a museum and an art
gallery with beautiful murals, bronze statues, antique, old coins etc on
display. The art gallery houses a collection of paintings from the personal
collection of Raja Ravi Varma.
Kozhikode Beach
The enchanting beach is an excellent place to witness the beauty of the sun
setting behind the blue waters of the ocean. A lighthouse and two old piers
are other tourist magnets around the area.
Krishna Menon Museum
Named after the renowned statesman V. K. Menon, the museum houses a whole
wing dedicated to the personal belongings and articles of the late leader.
Velliyamkallu
This is a massive rock situated in the middle of the ocean, which was once
a major threat for the navigators. It was here that an entire crew of an
invading Portuguese ship were killed by the Marakkars. The engravings on the
rock are also worth appreciating.
Planetarium
The planetarium, situated in the Jaffarkhan Colony is an excellent place
for those who want to explore the mysteries of the universe. A number of
experiments on display and a short documentary on the planets and the solar
system provide rich information to the visitors.

Situated just 45 km from Kozhikode, Kakkayam is a place of immense natural

Kozhikode. The ancient rock cut Lokanarkavu temple houses a number of

devoted to Lord Shiva and Vishnu.

Getting There
By Air : A domestic airport is situated at Karipur, just
25 km out of the city. Air India connects the place with a few international
destinations including Sharjah while Indian Airlines connect Kozhikode with
Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai. The Indian Airlines office is
located on Bank Road near Mavoor Junction.
By Rail : The railway station at Kozhikode is located on
Ansari Road about 2 km from the main bus stand. Regular trains connect
Kozhikode with Ernakulam, Trivandrum, Coimbatore, Chennai, Delhi and
Bangalore.
By Road : The state transport bus station is located on
the Mavoor Road while another bus stand is situated close to the Bank Road.
Regular buses operated by the KSRTC connect Kozhikode with other
neighbouring cities such as Mangalore, Mysore, Ooty, Coimbatore, Trivandrum,
Alappuzha, Kottayam and Kochi. Road transport has the additional advantage
of providing you with some spectacular views.
