Bengal Tiger is found is the land of natural heritage, India. The Bengal
Tiger is native to the Indian Peninsular. It is also the largest mammal of
the cat family.
Facts of the Majestic Tiger
A grown up male tiger, can be as big as 10 feet in length and could weight
up to 260 kgs. The female counterpart grows up to 8.7 feet in length. The
females gain sexual maturity at 3- 4 years and can give birth to 4 cubs at a
time, where as the males get mature only after a year. The life span
of this gigantic tiger is said to be of 15 years in its natural habitat but
under secured environment the Bengal Tigers can live up to 18 years. They
are at the verge of extinction and are listed by USFWS as highly endangered
species.
Tiger a Magnificent Hunter
Encountering the beast so majestic and captivating will definitely leave
one spellbind. This yellowish orange beast with massive body of black, gray
or brown vertical stripes is a stalwart tracer. They have extremely sharp
front teeth, strong jaws. Their sturdy claws and teeth can tear the flesh of
deer, wild pig and buffaloes and can eat up to 40kgs. in a single meal. They
often steeplechase at dusk, when their prey are least alert, their strips
also help them to hide in the tall yellow-green grasses. Sometimes when they
are in their slothful state they even feed upon fishes, birds and frogs.
Habitat
In India Royal Bengal Tiger could be traced in the tropical jungles,
bushes, marsh lands and tall grasslands of Jim Corbett, Sunder bans,
Periyar, Sariska and Ranthambore, as these places have the enormous stock of
herbivores and a perfect vegetation of marsh lands, tall grasses, bushes and
dense forests required for their survival. Normally this majestic beast
prefers a sole existence roaring and strolling on the great green carpets of
the wilds. It is delightful experience to catch the tiger in its diverse
subtlety of mood, wading in the lake or ready to pounce upon its prey. The
Indian Government has taken major steps for the conservation of this elusive
animal, today there number has increased up to 3000 in the wild.
