About Amritsar

An
adorable abode, Amritsar is situated in the state of Punjab, India. The city
was originated by the fourth Sikh saint, Guru Ram Das in 1574 and was name
as Amrit-Sagar, meaning 'The Ocean of the Nectar of Immortality". The
city is highly praised for its religious and historical buildings.

Golden Temple
Amritsar is honored to have the captivating Golden Temple, built during
1547AD. It is amongst the oldest Sikh Gurudwaras and devotees also call it
as Guru Di Nagri The holy site is surrounded by a small lake and
a number of trees. The 100 Kg golden plates which cover the exterior upper
floor, complemented with exquisite marble work describes the role of
Maharaja Ranjit Singh in developing its feature. Locally known as Harmandir
Sahib, the pilgrimage site is believed to have the magical power of God and
as such number of people, irrespective of their caste and creeds make an
Amritsar trips at least once in their life time.
Durgiana Temple
Located at the outskirts of the Lohgarh Gate, this temple is one of the most
pious and ancient Hindu Pilgrimage. History has linked the place with
Goddess Durga and as such the temple got its introduction as Durgiana
Temple. Constructed during the third decade of the 20th Century its
architectural work echoes the style of Golden temple, merged with Sikh
temple within the region of Amritsar. The temple is also known as the
Lakshmi Narain temple
Tarn Taran
This holy Sikh monument is situated 24 Km in the southern part of Amritsar.
The shrine positioned in the town of similar name is built in the memory of
Guru Ram Das. Its architecture speaks a lot about the Golden temple of the
city. The place get jazzed with fairs held every year on the birth
anniversaries of the Guru.
Jallianwala Bagh
Jalianwala Bagh is situated 400 meters to the north of the Golden Temple.
This place is greatly reviewed for its most violent massacre carried out by
the cruel rulers of British India. The dreadful incident took place on April
13, 1919,when thousands of people were shot dead for no reason. Today, the
place has been changed into a park and still treasures the bullet marks and
memorial plague, which recalls the history.
Ram Bagh
As the name suggest, this awesome garden is a tribute to the fonder of
Amritsar city, Guru Ram Das. The beautiful Bagh is a home to the historical
palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Its intricated design speaks of his ruling
dynasty. The palace has with the rare collection of miniature paintings, old
coins, weapons and a replica of Kohinoor diamond. The garden premise holds a
lively statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh saddled on a horse.
Govindgarh Fort

Also
known as the 'Bhangian Da Quila', this fort took its existence in 1760,under
the regime of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Its massive wall with special safeguard
technique were ensured to built a suitable place for King's treasure and his
subject. But Govind Garh Fort was captured by British Government and later
after Independence it came under the control of Indian Army. At present,
efforts are on the move to glorify the fort so as to make it an ultimate
tourist site in Amritsar.
