About Ujjain

The
holy district in Madhya Pradesh, Ujjain is situated on the Malwa Plateau in
Central India. The district is surrounded with Shajapur, Dewas, Indore, Dhar
and Ratlam respectively. According to Hindu scripture, Ujjain is blessed
with nectar drops which fell into the land while the gods and the demons
were engaged in a fierce battle to gain control over the pot of nectar. The
pilgrimage place is also believed to be the godly land of Lord Mahakal, Lord
Krishna and His immortal friend Sudhama. The holy Shipra river flows along
side the Ujjain and devotees also call the town as Ujjayini or Awantika. The
annual festival, Simhastha is organized during the month of April or May.

Bhartrihari
Caves
As the name suggest, the origin of Bhartihari Caves dates back to the epic
ages of the honourable priest and philosopher named Bhartrihari. The cave is
situated on the bank of the River Shipra and was his esteemed meditation
center. His contribution towards the Hindi and Sanskrit literature was later
recognised after his death. Today, thousand of tourist visit the cave and
pay homage to the great saga.
Durgadas Cenotaph
Also known as Durgadas Ki Chhatri, this popular cenotaph of the brave
soldieris is a beautiful structure that houses a massive image of Durgadas
in the centre along with other intricacies on the walls. The place treasures
the glory of the courageous soldier who have fought bravely for the
independence of Jodhpur after the death of Maharaja Jaswant Singh.
Kaliadeh Palace
Kaliadeh Palace is nestled near the Shipra River. The Affluent palace was
constructed in 1458 and is designed with 52 tanks surrounding the palace.
This beautiful castle is built in a Persian architecture style and treasures
the rare collection of the glorious past.
