About Assam

India is a country of myriad features. From the mighty Himalayas that dot
the entire northern region to the coastal plains of Kanyakumari, each has

foothills of the Himalayas, Assam is known as the gateway to the north-east.
The state bordered by Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and
Mizoram is spread over an area of over 78,400 sq. km.

the mighty Brahmaputra river which flows in from neighbouring Tibet. The

Wildlife in Assam

and fauna including the mighty one horned Indian Rhino. Other fascinating

include Tigers, Golden Langur, Swamp Deer, Leopard, Hoolock Gibbon and a
variety of other migratory birds, which arrive here during the winter
season. Some of the most popular wildlife habitats in Assam are the
Kaziranga National Park,
Nameri National Park, Pabitora Sanctuary and
Manas National Park.
Climate in Assam
Assam receives one of the highest amount of rainfall for any place in the
world. The climate of the state is different from most of the other regions
of the country and is characterised by high levels of humidity. There are
mainly two seasons in Assam, namely winter and monsoons. Monsoon season
generally hits the state between March and May, when nearly all other parts
of the sub-continent remain dry. Winter season arrives during October and
continues till February. The best time to visit Assam is from October to
April.
Getting There
By Air : Guwahati is an international airport which
connects Assam with other cities in India as also with a few international
destinations. There is a weekly flight between Guwahati and Bangkok. Other
domestic airports in the state are located at Jorhat, Tezpur, Silchar,
Dibrugarh and North Lakhimpur.
By Rail : Guwahati is the main railhead of Assam which
connects the region with other cities in India including New Delhi,
Kolkatta, Mumbai and Bangalore.
By Road : Various cities within and around the state are
linked through a network of well built roads. State transport buses operate
regular services between the various tourist destinations of the state.
