About Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh, the region of snowy mountains is one of the beautiful

Historical Background of Himachal Pradesh
The history of Himachal Pradesh indicates the Indus Valley Civilization
(2250-1750 B.C). According to the epic Vedas, the early inhabitants of the
region were the Dasas. Later, Aryans. In 647 A.D Rajputs set up their
administration in every corner of the Himachal, which was later transfered
to the Mughal Empire. Their dynasty began to break up and Kangra regained
independence status under Maharaja Sansar Chand. In 1768, Gorkhas came into
power and captured Shimla and Sirmour, but failed to achieve the Kangra
Fort. The British then came and defeated Gorkhas and annexed the several
kingdoms . Soon after the India received the independence (1947), 30
princely state of the region got united and lastly, Himachal Pradesh was
formed on 15th April, 1948. By 1966, certain areas belonging to Punjab
became a part of Himachal Pradesh and on 25th January, 1971, Himachal
Pradesh was declared, a complete State.
