States of South India Information
The southern part of the country known as South India comprises of four
states namely Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Extremely
rich in its cultural and architectural heritage, the geographical boundaries
of south India encompass the entire India peninsula lying south of the
Vindhya range. Dravidian languages are commonly used for communication while
agriculture is the largest contributor to the domestic product with
information technology emerging as a rapidly growing industry.
Karnataka
Spread over a huge area of over 1,92,000 sq. km, the south Indian state of
Karnataka is bordered by Maharashtra in the north, Tamil Nadu and Kerala in
the south and Andhra Pradesh in the east. The culturally rich state boasts
of a vibrant past, being ruled by numerous dynasties including the
Chalukyas, Rastrakutas, Gangas, Wodeyars and Kadamabas, each of whom left
indelible imprints on its land in the form of monumental structures. The
state is known across the world for Carnatic music which is just one of the
its numerous gifts to the world. One of the world's oldest civilisations is
also home to the world heritage sites of Hampi and Pattadakal.

Kerala
Kerala is sobriquet God's Own Country and there is plenty of reason for it.
Located at the southern tip of India, this narrow stretch of land is blessed

Andhra Pradesh
The fifth largest city in India, Andhra Pradesh is also sometimes known as
the rice granary of India, the reason being river Godavari which irrigates
the land, turning it extremely fertile. Though Telugu remains the official
language of communication, the erstwhile Muslim rule in the state also paved
the way for Urdu, which is also widely spoken and understood. Of the
numerous attractions in the state, Hyderabad is probably the most famed,
which is replete with religious and historically significant structures. The
climate of Andhra Pradesh is generally hot and humid with temperatures
remaining between 25-40 and 13-32 during summers and winters respectively.

Tamil Nadu
The state of Tamil Nadu is bordered by Kerala in the west and Karnataka and
Andhra Pradesh in the north. The melting pot of south Indian temple
architecture, Tamil Nadu houses temples of various styles which originated
during the 6th and 7th century and are known for their unique gopurams or
gates which can be seen soaring above all the major towns and cities.
Chennai (Madras), the capital of Tamil Nadu and the fourth largest city in
the country is replete with numerous tourist attractions, both ancient and
modern. The climate of Tamil Nadu is typically tropical where temperatures
remain at high thirties or forties during summers and seldom falls below 17
degrees celcius during winters.
